Brandon Truter: Sekhukhune United were average in Carling Knockout exit

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter bemoaned his side’s “average” performance after they were eliminated from the Carling Knockout quarter-finals by TS Galaxy.

Babina Noko ultimately came undone in the penalty shootout after the two teams played to a dull goalless draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium last night.

Truter, with his job on the line after assistant coach Morgan Gould and goalkeeper coach Johan Abselon were sacked a few days ago, was naturally dejected as a win would have provided reprieve.

"A bad result for us. I think we had an opportunity here to get into the semi-finals, and hopefully win the cup, considering the results leading up to the quarter-finals," said Truter.

"It wasn't a good performance, to be honest, from us. I think we had too many players with below-par performances tonight, but even as average as we were tonight, I still felt we could have sneaked the game."

Galaxy converted all their penalties while their goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari denied Sekhukhune twice in the shootout.

Truter brought in Ntokozo Mtsweni late on, hoping he could be the spot-kick hero instead of first-choice keeper Badra Sangare, but the coach argues their rivals seemed better prepared.

"[Penalties] are always a lottery, and they managed to sneak it. So, well done to them. They came through a penalty shootout [in the last 16], obviously, and the experience from that, and the occasion, they could handle it tonight.

"From my boys, there were some poor penalties tonight. Ntokozo couldn't keep one out either, so ja. All in all, not a good night for us."
