Brandon Truter denies Sekhukhune United future hanging by a thread

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has denied his future hangs in the balance despite two members of his technical team likely to be shown the door.

SABC Sport broke the news on Monday that Truter had lost the backing of the Babina Noko hierarchy following three successive defeats in the DStv Premiership, and crunch talks were being held to determine the next steps.

While Truter himself did not attend the meeting two days ago, he awaited a verdict that concluded with indications assistant coach Morgan Gould and goalkeeper mentor Johan Abselon could be the sacrificial lambs.

The coach, however, declined to comment about his backroom staff, but said the players’ dip in form is cause for concern and perhaps it was only natural for speculation about his job security to emerge.

"No, there was no meeting on Monday. There was absolutely no meeting on Monday, that I promise you," insisted Truter.

"But, at the same time, I'm a winner. I don't understand losing – when we do lose, it hurts and affects me a lot. The same with the players, and I think the management as well.

"Look, as a club, we've achieved a lot and it's a club that's only three seasons old. Last season, from 15th to the top eight, a Nedbank Cup final, this season in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup – so the expectations go up.

"And when you have a dip in form like that, of course in football, everybody's going to speculate, and especially in the PSL, where coaches change so very quickly.

"I think, in the league, there's only about three or four [coaches] that have the backing of their clubs, and the patience of their owners, but the speculation will always be there and I can promise you there was absolutely no meeting on Monday."
