Breaking: Brandon Truter's future in the balance as Sekhukhune United plan crunch talks

SABC Sport has established Sekhukhune United and coach Brandon Truter are set for crunch talks on Monday, with the likely outcome a mutual separation just 10 league games into the season.

The impromptu meeting comes on the back of three successive defeats for Babina Noko in the DStv Premiership, and even though they are through to the Carling Knockout (CKO) quater-finals against TS Galaxy this weekend, the public broadcaster understands Truter has lost support of the hierarchy.

Coincidentally, it may very well have been Galaxy who put the final nail in the former AmaZulu and Moroka Swallows mentor’s coffin after Sekhukhune suffered a 2-0 defeat to them on Sunday.

Truter was appointed just a under 12 months ago to replace Kaitano Tembo and immediately improved the side's fortunes – helping them to a top-eight finish as well as the Nedbank Cup final, where they lost to Orlando Pirates at Loftus Stadium in May.

It’s an achievement that also guaranteed the club a place in the CAF Confederation Cup, of which they are currently in the group stages alongside RS Berkane (Morocco), Diables Noirs (Congo) and Stade Mailen (Mali), with the round-robin stage set to start later next month.

However, their start to the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League topflight season has been tepid, with Truter having managed seven wins from 14 matches across all competitions – a return his bosses now deem inadequate.

SABC Sport contacted the coach’s agent earlier this morning, but Basia Michaels’ phone rang unanswered.

It’s expected 'Brakkies' could be facing the chop, and the decision is likely to be taken before they again face The Rockets in the CKO on Saturday.

Earlier this month the coach did suggest he was ready to "resign", but later retracted his statement by arguing his comments were taken out of context because of the frustrating nature of the demanding job.

“We had not seen our families in a while, but all coaches go through this period at times. But my comments were taken a little bit out of context,” he said at the launch of the Carling Knockout Cup.
