The 28-year-old defender, now a free agent, has been cleared to begin training at Sturrock Park under coach Adnan Beganovic, who will decide in the coming days whether to add him to the squad for the rest of the season.
Sam joined Amakhosi just over a year ago from arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, but his time at Naturena never got off the ground.
He sustained an injury during Chiefs’ pre-season tour of Turkey and was unable to feature under new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
By the time he regained fitness, Nabi had already settled on his preferred options, leaving Sam surplus to requirements and eventually released.
Galaxy, who recently had their FIFA registration ban lifted, are actively looking to bolster their squad. The club could only field limited matchday squads earlier in the season but now has the flexibility to bring in reinforcements.
Beganovic has already secured the signing of right-back Patrick Fisher, who joined from Cape Town City after the Citizens were forced to cut costs following their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Sam’s potential arrival would give Galaxy further depth and experience on the opposite flank, providing balance to their defensive options.
With Galaxy hitting a good run of form before the FIFA international break, Beganovic may see Sam’s experience as a valuable addition to maintain momentum and strengthen the team for the challenges ahead.
