Galaxy host amateur side Jacksa Spears at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday, with a place in the semifinals at stake.
With defending champions Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates already knocked out of the competition, Parker believes Galaxy now have a genuine chance to go all the way.
"We have done our homework, they have, and we all know what can happen and what has happened in the past in the Nedbank Cup. In the cup we are also well aware that we have a strong possibility of going all the way to the final. The reason is that we all know the big teams have been surprised and we also don't want to be surprised by the opponents that we going to face. But right now the focus is on Jacksa Spears this weekend, and the main focus is for us to make sure that we get the team back to our performing level," said Parker
Galaxy are previous winners of the cup having made history in 2019 by beating Chiefs as a then lower division team. Parker believes that is both a reminder and motivation of the unpredictable nature of the competition.
Parker added that Galaxy’s team of analysts have done all they can to source information on little known Jacksa Spears, who have flown under the radar to get this far in the Nedbank Cup.
A former striker, Parker was asked about his input in that department at Galaxy.
"It's a question of technique and applying the right technique in that moment of action. At Galaxy, our young players have responded well in terms of the tips that I give them, and they doing well by converting the chances that we get."
