Bayern Munich make Bundesliga history with 5-0 win over St Pauli

Bayern Munich broke the record for most goals in a Bundesliga season when they thrashed St Pauli 5-0 at Millerntor Stadion in the German top-flight on Saturday.

The record is even more impressive, and likely to be extended further, considering the Bavarians still have five Bundesliga fixtures to play this season.

The result moved them 12 points clear at the top of the league standings after Borussia Dortmund were beaten 1-0 at home by Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayern got off to a brisk start with Jamal Musiala putting them ahead in the ninth minute with an audacious diving header from a Nonrad Laimer cross.

St Pauli almost pulled one back midway through the first half but were denied by Kim Min-Jae blocking the shot off the line.

After the half-time break it was all the Bavarians, Leon Goretzka doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half with a thumping volley. The strike was also the side's 102nd goal of the season to take them past the league record.

Less than 90 seconds later, Michael Olise made it 3-0 with a precision strike from the edge of the area into the bottom corner.

Nicolas Jackson made it 4-0 in the 65th minute with a side-footed shot from close range, before Raphael Guerreiro completed the scoring in the 89th minute after stealing the ball from a defender and finishing with aplomb.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Dortmund fell to a 1-0 defeat to Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park, with Robert Andrich grabbing the decisive goal in the 42nd minute.

The two results all but guarantee Bayern Munich the Bundesliga title as they now lead by 12 points with only a maximum of 15 points left to get.

Wolfsburg fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt at the Volkswagen Arena.

Oscar Hojlund got the visitors off to a good start with a strike in the 21st minute before Arnaud Kalimuende doubled their advantage 11 minutes later.

Dzenan Pejcinovic pulled one back deep into stoppage time at the end of the game but it proved to be too little, too late.

RB Leipzig beat Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 at the Red Bull Arena with Yan Diomande scoring a late winner in the 80th minute.

Heidenheim cruised to a comfortable 3-1 win over Union Berlin at the Voith Arena.

Mathias Honsak scored first for the home side in the ninth minute before making it 2-0 and completing his brace around the half hour mark.

Leopold Querfeld pulled one back for Union Berlin in the 75th minute but Budu Zivzivadze restored their advantage with the winning goal just four minutes later.

Augsburg and Hoffenheim drew 2-2 at the WWK Arena with all the action coming in the first half.

Alexis Claude-Maurice scored first for the home side in the 11th minute, with Michael Gregoritsh making it 2-0 three minutes later.

Hoffenheim fought back well, though, and pulled one back through Robin Hranac in the 35th minute before Bazoumana Toure restored parity just before half-time.
