Late Betway Premiership drama as Sekhukhune snatch win, Polokwane rescue draw

There was late drama in the Betway Premiership on Saturday as Sekhukhune United struck at the death to beat Magesi FC, while Polokwane City earned a last-gasp point against Chippa United.

Sekhukhune leave it late to down Magesi

Sekhukhune United snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over bottom-placed Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, scoring with virtually the last kick of the game.

In a tightly contested encounter, both sides created chances but were unable to break the deadlock before the interval, with goalkeepers kept busy at either end.

Magesi showed attacking intent through Khonadzeo Muvhango and Sifiso Luthuli, while Sekhukhune responded with efforts from Bright Ndlovu and Vuyo Letlapa, the latter going close early in the second half. New signing Rivaldo Coetzee also made his debut for Babina Noko after the break as they pushed for a winner.

Just as the match looked set to end goalless, Sekhukhune delivered a late blow, with Ndlovu heading home from an Ellis Rammala corner in stoppage time to secure all three points, leaving Magesi coach Allan Freese visibly frustrated on the touchline.

Polokwane grab late equaliser to deny Chippa

Chippa United and Polokwane City played out a 1-1 draw in their Betway Premiership clash on Saturday, with both sides earning a point after a competitive encounter.

The hosts enjoyed the better of the first half and took the lead just before the break, as Malebogo Modise turned home a cross from Sinoxolo Kwayiba following sustained pressure.

Chippa continued to threaten early in the second half, but Polokwane gradually grew into the contest and began creating chances of their own, coming close through Manuel Kambala and Bonginkosi Dlamini.

Their persistence paid off four minutes from time when Ndamulelo Maphangule converted from the penalty spot after a foul on Boy Madingwane, ensuring the visitors left with a share of the spoils.
