Confirmed: Banyana vs Senegal match moved to Saturday

The friendly international match between Banyana Banyana and Senegal has now been moved a day later with times and venues still to be confirmed.

As earlier reported by SABC Sport, SAFA wrote to their West African counterparts to postpone the clash, which was initially scheduled for Friday, 31 May, in order to allow Banyana staff and players to cast their votes on South Africa’s Election Day on Wednesday, 29 May 2024.

Initial arrangements had coach Desiree Ellis’ charges assembling for a training camp on Monday, 27 May and departing the next day for Senegal.

Following the revised fixture date, the squad will still report for national team duty on Monday but will now delay their departure to Wednesday evening.

The latest developments will no doubt put pressure on preparations for the first match as there will be little time to ready the team for Saturday, more so after Ellis made several changes to the squad for this particular trip to Senegal.

The likes of captain Refiloe Jane, Thembi Kgatlana, Jermaine Seoposenwe, Nomvula Kgoale, and Noko Matlou are all missing from the list.

However, there are still experienced campaigners in the team, with the likes of Bambanani Mbane, Linda Motlhalo, Kholosa Biyana, Kaylin Swart, Karabo Dhlamini and Lebogang Ramalepe to guide the youngsters who have been roped in.

The second friendly fixture will still go ahead on Tuesday, 1 June as previously announced.
