Atalanta's Raffaele Palladino admits Bayern 'best in the world' after crushing exit

The Italian side's round of 16 campaign ended in brutal fashion, losing 10-2 on aggregate after a 4-1 defeat in the second leg at the Allianz Arena. Bayern delivered a clinical performance, underlining their status as one of Europe's strongest teams.

Harry Kane led the charge once again, opening the scoring in the 25th minute before adding his second shortly after the break in the 54th minute. 

Bayern's dominance continued as Lennart Karl struck in the 56th minute, with Luis Diaz adding a fourth in the 70th minute. Atalanta's only response came late on, when Lazar Samardzic found the net in the 85th minute.

Despite the heavy defeat, Palladino remained composed and honest in his assessment. "I want to congratulate Bayern, Vincent Kompany, and wish them the best of luck," he said. "We faced the best team in the world and our goal was to give everything.

"We have to accept the result with humility and compliment the opponent."

Nearly 4,000 Atalanta supporters made the journey from Italy for the match, despite dealing with a local transport strike that complicated their trip to the stadium. Palladino made sure to acknowledge their effort and support.

"We tried to give our all, the objective was to salute our many fans with a better result than the first leg, and they were again fantastic tonight," he added.

He also stressed the value of the experience for his squad. "We learned a lot from these two games," Palladino said, highlighting the gap his players must close to compete at the highest level.

Bayern now march into the quarter-finals, where a blockbuster clash awaits against Real Madrid, renewing one of European football's most famous rivalries.
