Cassar together with coach Bafana Hlapho will take over from Janine van Wyk who will be pursuing a coaching career in Sweden.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Cassar says it will be key for her players to have a hunger to win games this season.
“The seamless transition from coach Bafana and myself will be the key to maintaining a high standard. Having worked with the team in 2025 we will prioritise the continuity of a winning mentality and high intensity environment, and a hunger from the players to achieve more,” said Cassar.
The Bedfordview outfit managed to secure a second place finish last season with 69 points on the log, leading TS Galaxy on goal difference. Cassar adds that the mandate is to build from last season’s success.
“It's an honor to have the belief and trust from the club and players to build on last year's success and make sure the team's foundation stays strong. Having finished as runners-up in 2025, the 2026 mandate is to build on that success, with a clear focus on building on to challenge for the title,” added Cassar.
The 38-year-old mentor unpacks key changes to expect, stating that they will be promoting young players from the development side into the senior team.
“The JVW culture is to integrate talent from our development, these additions will be necessary to creating squad depth. We are also very excited to welcome back one of our own development players ,Cimone Sauls. I believe that her energy and talent will be a beneficial addition to our 2026 campaign,” she expressed.
