Adel Amrouche urges Kaizer Chiefs to allow Fiacre Ntwari to move

Rwanda national team head coach Adel Amrouche has boldly called on Kaizer Chiefs to release The Wasps’ number one goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, if they do not intend playing him regularly at club level.

The 25-year-old former TS Galaxy goalkeeper has only featured once in domestic football this season – something very concerning for the Belgian-Algerian mentor.

Amrouche, who is in South Africa for today’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana at Mbombela Stadium, revealed he’s also been in contact with Chiefs coaches about Ntwari.

"It's difficult. I'm happy I found him in the team because I gave him all the confidence, and the team also gives him confidence to be number one in the team," Amrouche told the media.

"And I wish him all the best for the [season] – I can't talk because I respect the goalkeeper who is playing [at Chiefs] and I respect the work of the goalkeeper.

"But I think, if you won't let him play, let him go because it's better to not stop the quality of one person like Fiacre."

Ntwari also caused a storm in the recent Carling Knockout first round tie against Stellenbosch FC, when he refused to be substituted before the penalty shootout, which Chiefs went on to lose, and Amrouche maintains the keeper is one of Africa's best.

"I had a good discussion with the [previous] coach of Kaizer Chiefs, and I cannot tell the coaches how to work, but only to make communication and share how he can maintain Fiacre in good shape and also that level of competition," he added.

"It's not easy, and I'm happy to have that collaboration with the coaches everywhere, especially with the coaches at Kaizer Chiefs, coach Nabi and Ilyes [Mzoughi] the goalkeeper coach.

"We respect the [players] who play, of course, this is football and this is the judgement of the coach, but for Fiacre, in my opinion, he's one of the best goalkeepers in Africa, and he's very talented, very disciplined and very positive.

"But I've never heard something negative from him about his club, he loves his club, he has very good contact with his teammates, and all the players in his team love him."
