URC: Bulls start Johan Ackermann era with high-scoring victory against Ospreys

Johan Grobbelaar scored a hat-trick of tries to help the Bulls kick off their United Rugby Championship campaign with a 53-40 victory against Ospreys at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Marcell Coetzee and Cheswill Jooste also claimed two five-pointers apiece as the home team scored nine tries in the contest to start a new era under head coach Johan Ackermann.

It was Ospreys who made the early running in the game when Keelan Giles and Keiran Williams dotted down to give the visitors a 12-0 lead.

The hosts hit back and levelled matters on the scoreboard as Coetzee powered over for a double while Keagan Johannes slotted one conversion.

The Welsh side though refused to lie down and Williams grabbed his second try of the game as his side took a halftime lead.

The Bulls gained momentum after the interval and hooker Grobbelaar completed his hat-trick to help his team run away from the visitors.

The Ospreys briefly rallied through No 8 Morgan Morse while Jack Walsh also crossed as the Welsh outfit took a bonus-point from the game.

Replacement prop Juann Els though put the game beyond doubt while Jooste also touched down for his second try as the Bulls finished strong.
