The Boks Sevens defended their Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup in Nairobi, Kenya last weekend, where the captain scored most points for the team.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Van Der Merwe says Roos’ success can be credited to her hard work on and off the field.
"The success Nadine Roos is experiencing is thanks to the opportunities she received from TUKS playing locally and internationally, Dubai, France, Germany, Italy , England, Melrose Sevens as well as the consistent hard work she's put in over the years and exceptional talent," Van Der Merwe said.
"It is great news that athletes like her are getting the opportunities that any girl can only dream of and it shows any girl out there and lady that here is your and go forward in life through rugby and become an Olympic athlete through sevens rugby. This is your chance, grab is with both hands, join TUKS Women's Sevens now to experience the same opportunities."
The USSA Champions clinched silver in the Ovalyonne 7’s and Toulon 7's while finishing as Plate-finalists at Centrale 7's, in France.
The back-to-back GABS 7’s winning coach has credited their success to the dedication of his players.
"What has contributed to making this year so successful is specifically the attitude of the players, the quality of the players, the girls come from across South Africa and are very, very keen to play rugby women's sevens. The result is this amazing success," the coach explained.
The team is sponsored by AirFrance, a partnership that started in 2011, which Van Der Merwe says makes it easy for them to compete across the world.
"AirFrance is literally the partner that opens the doors towards the world, for new players entering rugby in February to experience Toulon and Lyon in April and Paris in May is thanks to the opening of the door by Air France for them to literally see the world."
