Rassie Erasmus laughs off Cheslin Kolbe's bizarre blunder against Argentina

Rassie Erasmus has laughed off Cheslin Kolbe's unusual blunder during South Africa's clash with Argentina in Durban.

The Springbok wing gifted Los Pumas a try after, following a goal-line dropout, he inadvertently drop-kicked the ball straight into play.

Argentina centre Santiago Chocobares seized the chance, scooping it up and crossing the whitewash in one of the oddest moments in Rugby Championship history.

Kolbe looked shell-shocked and more than a little embarrassed after the referee awarded the try but there was little he could do about it.

Erasmus was quick to downplay the incident, describing it simply as a rare and uncharacteristic error from one of his most dependable players.

"It's very simple what he did wrong," the Bok coach explained. "He wasn't trying to kick a short kick-off, he just wanted to kick the ball to the guys who would normally clear it. But it's a legal try - he drop-goalled it, they were five metres away, and they scored. It was a bit of a brainfart."

Erasmus was quick to stress Kolbe's overall influence on the game, noting that the wing made amends by scoring a try early in the second half.

"He did many other things that were great in the game," Erasmus said. "I've done stupid things like that when I was playing - all of us have. But you have to remember all the brilliant things he does as well.

"I think we can forgive him for those seven points."
