Rassie Erasmus describes the emotional decision around Siya Kolisi's 100th cap

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus all but confirmed that his captain Siya Kolisi won't play his 100th Test on home soil.

The double World Cup-winning captain earned his 97th Test cap this past weekend as the Boks mauled Argentina in Durban, their final test of 2025 on home soil. Springbok legends Eben Etzebeth and Willie le Roux were fortunate enough to celebrate their respective centurion Tests in the Republic, but logistically, this is looking very unlikely for Kolisi.

The reality is that the Springboks now prepare for six away games, starting with what will be a Rugby Championship decider against the Los Pumas in London this Saturday. Then in November, the Boks face Japan, France, Italy, Ireland and Wales. Injury aside, it's difficult to imagine a scenario where Kolisi plays just two of these six matches.

Erasmus told the press that it's difficult to plan for the milestone moments and warned that emotional decisions can negatively impact the squad.

"There are so many emotional decisions one has to make," said the coach.

"We are tight and very good friends, and there's a mutual belief in each other. We have [Makazole] Mapimpi, who is on 47], and we want to get him to 50 Tests, and Siya has 97 caps.

"You can't always plan where players will earn their 100th Test cap. If you start thinking too much about it, that's when you start risking losing Tests sometimes.

"Whether he does it against France or wherever it may be, we will celebrate it there when it happens.

"I don't think we're in a position after this game [Argentina] where we get France, Ireland and Japan to plan for Siya's centurion match. So he will have to take it as it comes."

Following Kolisi, veterans Damian de Allende and Pieter-Steph du Toit are next in line to reach 100 caps, with the duo on 92 each.
