Former Bulls boss Jake White in the running for Benetton head coach role

Former Springbok and Bulls coach Jake White has reportedly emerged as a candidate for a head coach role at Italian United Rugby Championship club Benetton.

Rugbypass reports that the 62-year-old is one of three names on the shortlist to take over from outgoing coach Calum MacRael, who  is set to link up with Dan McFarland's staff at Newcastle Red Bulls at the end of the season.

White has been without a coaching post since his departure from the Bulls in July last year. He took charge of the Pretoria outfit in 2020 and steered them to three URC finals in four campaigns.

Also in the frame is South African-born Corniel van Zyl, a former Benetton lock who earned eight Test caps for Italy. Van Zyl is currently head coach of Cardiff and previously served on Benetton's coaching staff before his move to Wales earlier this season.

The final contender is former England interim head coach Richard Cockerill, who has been out of the game since leaving Georgia in December.
