Fit-again Dewald Human ready for SVNS North American leg

Springbok Sevens playmaker Dewald Human says he is fully fit and eager to contribute again after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 30-year-old has not featured since the Singapore tournament last season due to injury, but returns as the HSBC SVNS series moves into its North American swing.

The Blitzboks will compete in back-to-back tournaments in Vancouver on 7–8 March and Los Angeles on 14–15 March, and Human admits the excitement feels similar to when he first broke into the system back in 2017.

"I'm very excited to join the team again, and I think the experience coming in, that side of the world is not really my favourite place," said Human.

"But I think Canada and USA is going to be exciting, and hopefully we can bring some trophies back because it's the end of the regular season."

The Blitzboks head into the North American leg with renewed confidence after claiming the title in Perth, which lifted them to second place on the overall standings behind Fiji.

Despite that momentum, Human, who has represented South Africa in more than 30 HSBC SVNS events, insists the squad’s focus remains on execution rather than the log.

"We just need to focus on ourselves, the log and places will take care of itself. Coach [Renfred] Dazel said we sometimes play against ourselves," he added.

"But we just need to focus on our processes and the first tournament and the second tournament will sort itself out, and we're looking forward to that.

"We had a great camp in Stellenbosch, so I think we just need to transfer that to Canada and focus on that tournament next week."
