Currie Cup: Free State Cheetahs come from behind to beat Western Province

The Free State Cheetahs made a comeback in the second half to defeat Western Province 26-17 on Saturday, claiming top spot in the Currie Cup standings.

The hosts opened the scoring with Andre-Hugo Venter in the 15th minute, and Kade Wolhuter secured the conversion.

However, Gideon van der Merwe replied for the visitors with a try from close range.

Angelo Davids, a Blitzboks star, scored for the hosts, with Wolhuter successfully making the conversion.

Reinhardt Fortuin scored a try for the away side, with Ruan Pienaar adding the conversion to close the gap to 14-12 at halftime.

In the second half, Wolhuter put the Cheetahs ahead with a penalty before they rallied to take control of the tie.

Louis van der Westhuizen's try powered them through, and Pienaar's conversion, along with a penalty try, secured their win.

The Cheetahs will host the Sharks on Friday, 21 April, while Western Province face the Pumas.
