Bulls star Johan Grobbelaar not underestimating Glasgow ahead of URC semifinal

It's a massive weekend for hooker Johan Grobbelaar as the Bulls travel to Scotland for their United Rugby Championship semifinal and he celebrates a personal milestone.

The Bulls face the red-hot Glasgow Warriors in a blockbuster semifinal at Murrayfield on Saturday. The Scots have been a bogey side for the men from Pretoria recently, beating them in their last two clashes, and some Bulls players will still be carrying mental scars from their 2024 URC final loss in Pretoria.

But Saturday presents an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past, though Grobbelaar is taking nothing for granted.

"Glasgow are probably one of the best-balanced teams in the competition," the Springbok told the press.

"There aren't many weak points that you can target. They're a quality side and they've shown that throughout the season. The margins are going to be very small.

"We've left opportunities out there in recent games and in knockout rugby you can't afford to do that. We have to take every chance we get."

One element in the Bulls' favour is that the clash is on the hallowed and real turf of Murrayfield, rather than the slick 4G pitch at Scotstoun. Grass results in a slower, territorial game that goes from set-piece to set-piece, something the Bulls pride themselves on.

"It's a field I've never played on before, so it's going to be a great opportunity," added Grobbelaar

"It's something that's on everyone's bucket list. I'm really looking forward to playing at Murrayfield and playing on grass again."

Finally, Grobbelaar is set to earn his 150th cap for the Bulls, and this time he'd like to cap off the milestone with a URC trophy later this month.

"It's been a great few years here in Pretoria with the Bulls," the 28-year-old reflected.

"There have been some ups and downs, but playing in those URC finals and now having the opportunity again to go all the way is special. Hopefully, we can get another crack at it and this time finish the job."
