Bulls hammer Zebre at Loftus to keep URC momentum rolling

The Bulls produced another commanding attacking display at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday to overpower Zebre 54-19 and pick up their fifth straight United Rugby Championship victory.

With Willie le Roux orchestrating much of the attack from flyhalf, the hosts crossed for eight tries in a bonus-point win that keeps their momentum rolling heading into the closing stages of the URC season.

The Bulls made the perfect start when Le Roux pounced on a loose ball to score in the third minute before converting his own try for a 7-0 lead.

Canan Moodie added the Bulls' second try after slick handling down the right flank, while Cheswill Jooste struck soon after Zebre had briefly threatened a comeback.

Jacopo Trulla intercepted to race away for Zebre's opening try midway through the first half, but the Bulls responded almost immediately through Jooste to restore control.

Sergeal Petersen then secured the Bulls' bonus-point try on the half-hour mark after a flowing move involving Kurt-Lee Arendse, helping the hosts take a 26-12 advantage into halftime despite Giampietro Ribaldi barging over from a maul late in the half.

The Bulls resumed their dominance after the break, with lock Ruan Vermaak collecting a clever chip kick to score before Cameron Hanekom powered through for another try after sustained pressure in the Zebre 22.

Zebre briefly reduced the deficit when Thomas Dominguez chased down a kick ahead to score, but Harold Vorster and Jeandre Rudolph added late tries as the home side pulled away in the final quarter.
