Bulls come up short in Ireland as Leinster power to URC trophy

The Bulls' hopes of landing a maiden United Rugby Championship (URC) title were dashed when the South African side went down to a 32-7 defeat against Leinster in the final in Dublin.

The Irish side stormed to a 19-0 halftime lead and never looked back, outscoring their opponents by four-tries-to-one it what was a convincing performance.

It was the Bulls' third URC final defeat in four years, as Leinster avenged two semi-final exits to Jake Whiteâ™s charges.

Leinster scored three tries in the first half through Jack Conan, All Blacks star Jordie Barrett and flanker Josh van der Flier while Sam Prendergast succeeded with two of three conversions.

Prendergast added a penalty to extend the lead after the interval but the Bulls hit back with a try from replacement hooker Akker van der Merwe while Johan Goosen converted to make it 22-7.

The home side reasserted their dominance though as Prendergast slotted another penalty before scrumhalf Fintan Gunne went over for the game's final try.
