The 'Weekend Special' was caught awkwardly in a tackle from Scott Barrett during the Bks record-breaking 43-10 win over the All Blacks in Round 4 of the Rugby Championship last Saturday. He attempted to play on, but ultimately left the field on the back of a buggy.
Later, Fassi was spotted in a moonboot while his teammates celebrated their incredible win in Wellington. Celebrations aside, it proved a somewhat costly two weeks for the Boks in New Zealand, as they also lost forwards Lood de Jager and Jean-Luc du Preez to injuries.
The 27-year-old took to social media on Saturday to confirm that he had indeed gone under the knife and was in recovery.
"Surgery went well," Fassi captioned in a short video.
"R&R now. Thank you for the wishes and kind messages."
According to reports, the Sharks are expecting him back in early December. However, that leaves Fassi unavailable for the rest of the Rugby Championship, as well as the Tests against Japan (1 November), France (8 November), Italy (15 November), Ireland (22 November) and Wales (29 November).
Fassi has earned 16 caps for the Springboks, scoring seven tries.
