Teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva sets up Madrid Open final clash with Kostyuk

Teenage star Mirra Andreeva booked her place in a maiden Madrid Open final after a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) victory over Hailey Baptiste.

The 19-year-old Russian will take on 26th seed Marta Kostyuk in Saturday's showpiece, after the Ukrainian advanced with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win against Anastasia Potapova.

Seeded ninth, Andreeva has enjoyed a standout clay-court campaign, winning 12 of her 13 matches on the surface this season, which included the title in Linz. She also became the first teenager to reach three WTA 1000 finals.

Andreeva looked on course for a more straightforward win after taking the opening set and moving to 5-4 in the second, only to be broken as she served for the match.

Baptiste, ranked 30th and fresh from a shock victory over world number one Aryna Sabalenka, forced a tiebreak and saved three match points before eventually succumbing in a tense tiebreaker.

"Honestly, I feel so much adrenaline inside. I feel like I'm still nervous. I'm just so happy that I won and that I was able to save all those set points," said Andreeva.

"The serve helped me a lot. I'm so, so happy - I cannot really find ways to describe what I'm feeling right now."

In the men's draw, defending champion Casper Ruud exited at the quarter-final stage, falling 6-4, 6-4 to Belgium's Alexander Blockx.

He now advances to his first tour-level semi-final, where he will face Alexander Zverev, who secured his place in the last four with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Italy's Flavio Cobolli.

Top seed Jannik Sinner will meet 21st seed Arthur Fils in the other semi-final after both players came through their respective quarter-final clashes.
