Kayla La Grange formed one quarter of the women’s 4x100m team that represented South Africa in the relay event at the Simbine Classic 2026, alongside Joviale Mbisha, Rume Burger and Gabriella Marais.
Speaking to SABC Sport, La Grange said they shouldn't be underestimated because they are here to win.
"Honestly I think it just gives us girls confidence. This is the first time in a while that South Africa is sending a 4x100m girls team. I think this win just gives us the self confidence and the motivation to say that we can do this and don't underestimate us, we're here to win."
The 21-year-old said lining up next to international competitors in the 4x100m relay final was an amazing experience. She also admitted that she did not expect her team to win, as they did not have time to prepare.
"It was amazing. I didn't think we were going to win because we didn't really have much time to prepare, and we literally came here an hour before and we were ready to go.
"I think we did well considering the little preparation we had, and tomorrow we start with camp and I can't wait for more training."
Initially ranked outside the top 24, the South African women's 4x100m relay team secured a spot for the World Relays 2026, scheduled to take place in Gaborone, Botswana this weekend, following withdrawals from Greece, Cuba, Czechia and Thailand.
La Grange said she found out about her inclusion at the recently concluded University Sport South Africa (USSA) Championships...
The team will assemble today for camp before departing for the World Relays.
