Molokwane is currently in her second term at the helm of SA netball, having first assumed office in 2017.
In an exclusive interview with SABC Sport, Molokwane says she will dedicate the next four years to grooming her successor.
“Yes I’m going for a third term, I thought about it because I was asked this before. But after four years, I will have to step down as the constitution states,” she confirmed.
“I can’t go for more than three terms. The constitution states that I can’t stay for too long, and before I leave, I must think of my successor.
“I have to groom someone to take over. I want SA Netball to continue to maintain a high standard even when I leave.”
During her two terms so far, the 50-year-old seasoned sports administrator has seen the Spar Proteas secure top four and top six spots in the last two Netball World Cups, including hosting the 2023 in Cape Town, which she notes as one of her highlights.
“My highlights in my journey, I will start with the World Cup – hosting the World Cup was really big and people didn’t believe that we could pull it off, but we did it,” Molokwane added.
“The other one was taking netball back to the people, I mean 52 districts are now playing in the Spar Championships, and we have players who are getting paid.
“Also, when I came in, we didn’t have black umpires, and now we have international black umpires under my leadership – we started with 13, and now we have 29. Male netball has also grown, and you can see Telkom Netball League has also grown.”
The Limpopo-born former aspiring coach further explained how far the federation is with professionalising the sport.
“I like to be realistic, that is the person I am. We are working on it, I don’t want to promise, but I am definitely working towards it.
“I can give you a due date when I have something that is on the dotted line, but it is something that is positive and we are starting to get the right support,” she concluded.
