Phophi Nematangari excited for Baby Spar Proteas to grace 2025 TNL

Baby Spar Proteas captain Phophi Nematangari is excited to play in the 2025 Telkom Netball League as part of their preparations for this year's Youth Netball World Cup in Gibraltar.

Nematangari will not be representing the Gauteng Jaguars this year as she’s expected to lead the nation U21 team in the elite tournament.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Nematangari says this opportunity will help the team reinforce as a unit ahead of the big task in September.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity to be able to play in the 2025 Telkom Netball League as part of the SPAR Baby Proteas, we need to just come together as a team and learn how to play together in a very tough competition with the senior ladies," said Nematangari.

"It's for us to just grow together and get the BMT [big match temperament] in preparation for the Netball Youth World Cup coming up in September."

The Baby Proteas are fresh from winning the Margaret Beckford Sunshine series against Jamaica earlier this year, and the wing defender believes it will be key to build on that momentum.

"This year we went to Jamaica and dominated, winning all three of our games, and I think it gives us a confidence booster going into the Netball Youth World Cup because we beat them in their home ground," she added.
