The tournament serves as a high-stakes gateway to the elite FIH Pro League, with the champion earning promotion for the 2026–27 season. This marks the second time South Africa has hosted the event, following the inaugural 2022 edition in Potchefstroom where the home side famously claimed the title.
The Mother City will welcome a formidable nine-team field including hosts South Africa, New Zealand, France, Korea, Japan, Wales, Malaysia, Ireland, and Scotland.
Ireland joins the roster following their stint in the Pro League, while Scotland secured their spot through promotion via the Nations Cup 2.
FIH President Tayyab Ikram expressed his enthusiasm for the choice of venue, stating:
"We are delighted to have an outstanding host nation and city for this remarkable tournament. I’m excited for the thrilling matches and the fantastic atmosphere that will unfold as some of the world’s top teams will showcase their talent."
For SA Hockey President Deon Morgan, hosting the event in Cape Town is about more than just the matches on the turf.
"It gives our national team the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the world on home soil, while also showcasing the passion and strength of hockey in our country. Events like this inspire the next generation of players."
Beyond the pitch, the tournament is expected to be a significant draw for international tourism and commercial partnerships. With global broadcast distribution and a passionate local fan base, the event provides a massive platform to showcase South Africa’s capability for hosting world-class sporting spectacles.
The 2026 Nations Cup promises to be a landmark moment, combining elite athletic competition with the iconic backdrop of Cape Town.
