Each coach will spend time shadowing Plummer during the Australian tour later this month as well as the English tour next month respectively.

Speaking with SABC Sport, Matthyse, who led her team to victory in the Telkom Netball League, has shot down suggestions she could be lined up as the next Proteas coach based on her upcoming experience with the team headed to England.

"I don't think you're ever ready for something like that. For me, going to England is shadowing Norma – that is the instruction, so I don't think it's being 'shortlisted'," argued Matthyse.

"I think it's just shadowing Norma and basically learning – I think that's what I'm going to do, it's just taking everything in. It's my first time being in a national team from a coaching perspective, so just seeing how the structures work and how she deals with the players.

"Basically that's what I'm looking forward to, it's just a growing and learning experience for me, but you can never be ready for something like that."

At the opportune time, the 38-year-old University of Pretoria alumna expressed her readiness to step up and pursue the most prominent role in South African Netball.

"Definitely [ready]. Like I said, I'm a coach that learns from everybody, whether it's a C-team coach at my school, a national or provincial coach, I want to learn from everybody and just grow as much as I can," she answered.

"I do think it's a process, and a lot of coaches have been in that process. As a young coach, I'm just using the opportunity to learn from them and, when it's my time, I will put up my hand and I will be ready to take that responsibility."
