In a letter seen by the national broadcaster, CGA general manager Mandla Radebe informed affiliated clubs, commissions, and committee members of the decision this week.
This follows a vote held last week, in which clubs voted 33 to 25 in favour of dissolving the board.
Radebe’s letter formally confirms that CGA is now operating without a board.
According to a letter circulated to members, the board was found to be dysfunctional, with internal divisions and the failure to hold four consecutive meetings due to a lack of quorum.
As a result, a vote of no confidence was passed against the entire board.
The CGA council has since instructed the general manager to convene this meeting, in line with clause 13.2 of the CGA constitution, to officially dissolve the board and chart the next course of action.
A board member who attended the meeting told SABC Sport that while elections were initially scheduled for March next year, the ongoing infighting and divisions within the board have prompted plans to hold them as early as November or December.
The insider welcomed the dissolution of the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) board, saying: “The board has been dissolved, and the general manager has taken over operations. There is currently no CGA president or board members in place. A vote of no confidence was passed more than ten times at the previous meeting,” they said.
“The general manager will lead the office until elections are held — a decision that will be finalised by the council on 23 August. CGA is in a state of disarray and needs a complete overhaul.
Everything is falling apart, and the province needs a fresh start. I’m pleased that the people have spoken, and the board has been dissolved.”
The board member emphasized the urgent need for CGA to restore its credibility and avoid further embarrassment.
“We’re becoming a laughingstock while other provinces continue to thrive. A new board will bring fresh energy and direction to CGA,” he said.
A Special General Meeting is scheduled for 23 August at 9am at the Recreation Hall in Germiston Stadium to determine the way forward for Central Gauteng Athletics.
Key items on the agenda include the presentation of the 2024 audited financial statements and the formal dissolution of the CGA board.
