SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt refuses to take Dondol Stars lightly

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt believes their Nedbank Cup opponents will be no pushovers given their standing in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League.

SuperSport will welcome Dondol Stars FC to Lucas Moripe Stadium on 8 February for the Last 32 encounter in the national cup.

Hunt, whose side are currently third on the DStv Premiership table, believes the Gauteng third-tier log leaders will be a tough nut to crack.

"They're top of the ABC Motsepe League, so they can't be bad. Highlands Park is number 2, I'm sure they're very active and very lively. We’ll obviously have a look at them when the time comes before the game," he said.

Rather than sending a video analyst to record footage of Dondol, Hunt says he still prefers to go out and assess their opponents himself, using his trained eye to suss them out.

“I still believe the old-school system is the best, watching live games than doing analysis. I watch more games than anybody, I may not be in the cooperate suite but I'll definitely be on the stands," Hunt explained.

With only two Nedbank Cup titles and five final appearances in his coaching career, the 58-year-old tactician argues his record is alright compared to other coaches.

"For three years in a row, I was in the final. I was at Chiefs, I was at Supersport then I was at Wits and then we lost to Pirates with Wits. I've played five finals and won twice, some people have never won a cup final in their lifetime," he concluded.
