Hugo Broos reveals new gadgets to boost World Cup preparations

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is embracing the role of sponsors in their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada and USA.

Speaking at the launch of the new Honor 600 mobile device series, Broos was a guest of honour alongside goalkeeper Ricardo Goss.

In the coming days, the Bafana squad will be participating in sponsors’ activities ahead of their departure to Mexico, and the coach has highlighted the importance of mutually beneficial partnerships for the national team.

"It becomes important, football is so evolved that nearly every second and every minute you have to evaluate and analyse, so when you have this – certainly now for the World Cup, you will face teams that also use such things," said Broos.

"They are also very well prepared so we have to do the same thing, and there is still a lot of work to do, but on the other side it can help us a lot."

With the new Honor phones and watches, Broos showcased how these gadgets will help them with analysis and conditioning, as well as how the players will be involved and benefit from them.

"I'm already training to use it because it's a little bit complicated, but it's a very good tool, so as I said already, we can detect all data of training sessions and guide players to do more or less," he added.

"So it's a fantastic thing, the more data you have and the more information you have, the better you can work, and certainly we now – especially with the high altitude [in Gauteng], we have to be very careful in the beginning that we don't overload the players.

"So when we have these tools then nothing can go wrong, and we also have a good physical coach who knows all this – I'm not really a specialist in that, but he will give me the data and we will know what we have to do."
