The midfielder will leave Naturena after four seasons at the club, with Chiefs and the player agreeing to part ways as the club begins a squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 campaign under incoming coach Fernando Da Cruz.
Matlou joined Amakhosi from Moroka Swallows in 2022 and arrived with high expectations. However, his time at the club was heavily disrupted by injuries, including lengthy spells on the sidelines that at one stage raised concerns about his long-term future in the game.
Despite those setbacks, the midfielder showed resilience to fight his way back into contention and gradually re-establish himself within the squad. He featured six times in all competitions last season as Chiefs carefully managed his return to full fitness.
The public broadcaster understands that Stellenbosch are keen to add Matlou to their ranks as coach Gavin Hunt continues to reshape his squad. The Winelands outfit have already seen a number of departures this transfer window, while also making plans to strengthen key areas ahead of another demanding campaign.
Sources indicate that Hunt views Matlou as a player capable of adding depth, experience and versatility to his midfield options.
Although there is interest from other clubs, Stellenbosch are currently considered firm favourites to land the 26-year-old.
Discussions are understood to be progressing positively, with further developments expected in the coming days as Matlou weighs up the next chapter of his career.
