Richards Bay's Siphamandla Mtolo dies after collapsing during training session

Tragedy struck PSL side Richards Bay on Tuesday when the club announced that Siphamandla Mtolo had passed away after collapsing during a training session.

The 29-year-old Mtolo played in eight league matches this season for the Natal Rich Boyz while also making an appearance in the Nedbank Cup.

The midfielder joined the KZN club in 2020 after a stint with Uthongathi FC and played a key role in their promotion to the top-flight from the First Division.

It is not yet known why Mtolo just collapsed with the club saying in a statement: "It is with deep sadness to announce that Richards Bay Football Club has lost one of the midfielders, Siphamandla 'Spepe' Mtolo this morning during training.

"The club is not in a position to provide further information at [this] stage and asks that his family's privacy [be] respected [during] this difficult time of bereavement.

"His presence both on and off the pitch will be solely missed. Thoughts and prayers of everyone in Richards Bay Football Club are with his family, friends and loved ones."

Richards Bay further stated that information around the passing of Mtolo will follow in due course.
