Nedbank Cup: Stellies thrash Birds as Arrows squeeze past Callies

Stellenbosch stormed into the Nedbank Cup last-16 on Saturday, while Golden Arrows ground out a narrow win in extra-time against Pretoria Callies.

The Cape Winelands outfit was off to a flying start at a hot Athlone Stadium as Vusi Sibiya found the back of the net for the hosts in the eighth minute.

The Dube Birds failed to bounce back from the early concession and saw Stellies find another goal shortly after the first as Iqraam Rayners made it 2-0.

Just shy of the hour mark Rayners completed his brace to secure the comfortable 3-0 win, against a Swallows side which couldn't find a single shot on target.

Meanwhile, Arrows had to get through an early setback to beat Callies, who scored first through Siyabonga Dubula's 15th-minute penalty at Princess Magogo Stadium.

An own-goal from Kamogelo Mogaswa levelled matters five minutes into the second stanza, forcing the game into extra-time, where Knox Mutizwa was the hero with a winner in the 113th minute.
