Chippa beat Polokwane in shoot-out to book Nedbank Cup last-16 spot

Chippa United sneaked past Polokwane City via a penalty shoot-out, after drawing 1-1, to claim their place in the Nedbank Cup last-16.

The clash was off to a flying start and almost saw a goal in the very first minute of play when poor communication in the Polokwane defence almost resulted in an opener for the visitors.

It was only three minutes into the game when the first goal arrived, but it was at the other end of the pitch from the early blunder.

This time it was the Chilli Boys who made a defensive mistake and Rise and Shine took the lead thanks to Francis Baloyi's finish.

More defensive frailties appeared shortly after the first goal as Chippa found their crucial equaliser via an own-goal from Bulelani Nikani.

Polokwane were kicking themselves around the half-hour mark as they missed an absolute sitter. Mokibelo Ramabu had the entire goal open but sent his shot flying over the bar.

The teams were still locked at 1-1 at half-time. Ramabu unleashed a shot in anger just past the hour mark but it went straight at goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

With the scoreline still level, the game went to extra-time and eventually penalties. The Chilli Boys came out on top in the shoot-out 3-1 to book their place in the last 16.
