Betway Premiership: Chippa United hold Kaizer Chiefs to a draw in Gqeberha

Kaizer Chiefs played to a goalless draw against bottom of the table Chippa United in their final Betway Premiership fixture ahead of the AFCON 2025 break.

Both teams struggled to create clear chances in a tight first half at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday evening, with Asanele Velebayi registering the first shot on target in the 21st minute after good work from Mfundo Vilakazi.

Amakhosi searched for the opener but could only shoot wide in four attempts before half time with Chippa making just one shot off target in additional time when Asanele Bonani missed the target by inches.

The teams came out looking to gain the advantage in the second half with Nkosingiphile Ngcobo's effort saved by Dumisani Msibi in the 46th minute before Chilli Boys substitute Boy Madingwane put his long-range attempt wide shortly after.

However, despite numerous attempts from mostly Chiefs, neither side could find an elusive winner and had to settle for a draw.

The result sees Amakhosi lie in fifth spot behind AmaZulu on the league table whilst Chippa United remain rooted at the bottom of the log ahead of the break for the upcoming 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco this month.
