Brandon Truter closing in on second Sekhukhune signing

Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter is hopeful of adding free agent Philani Zulu to his squad in the coming weeks, which could make the utility player his second signing at the club.

The latest intel suggests Truter could reunite with Zulu, who played for AmaZulu before the two parties went their separate ways at the end of the 2021/22 season.

SABC Sport understands that the 30-year-old could have an offer on the table from Sekhukhune even before the resumption of the domestic league.

Truter resigned as Usuthu coach in October and was appointed as Kaitano Tembo's successor last month.

If the deal goes over the line, the former Kaizer Chiefs full-back would be the second signing by the club since Tembo's sacking, after midfielder Given Mashikinya also recently joined them from PSL rivals Maritzburg United.

Approached for comment on the pending negotiations, Zulu’s agent, Basia Michaels of QT Sport, refused to give too much away, although she confirmed that the player had already started training with Babina Noko.

“It’s not my place to really talk about this,” Michaels told the public broadcaster’s sports desk when contacted for information.

“What I can tell you is that Philani had been invited for an assessment by the club and the discussions would then pick up from there. I am in Turkey at the moment and I would only have an update upon my return.”

Zulu was a surprise exit at AmaZulu in June, considering he made 25 appearances in all competitions in the one season he spent with the KwaZulu-Natal giants.
