Zimbabwe name fast bowler Richard Ngarava as new Test and ODI captain

The 27-year-old Ngarava made his international debut in an ODI against Afghanistan in Harare in 2017 and has gone on to represent in 11 Tests, 55 ODIs and 90 T20Is.

The left-arm paceman has recently become the first Zimbabwe bowler to take 100 wickets in the T20 format.

Brian Bennett has been named as Ngarava's vice-captain, with the appointments confirmed at the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board's fourth-quarter meeting held in Harare on Friday.

ZC chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said: "Ngarava has shown remarkable growth as a player and leader over the years.

"He commands respect within the dressing room and has consistently delivered for Zimbabwe across all formats. We believe he is ready to lead the team into its next chapter.

"Brian's appointment as vice-captain reflects our confidence in his cricketing intelligence, maturity and long-term leadership potential."

On Ervine, Mukuhlani added: "Craig Ervine led with professionalism, resilience and dignity during a challenging period.

"ZC is deeply grateful for his contribution to the team's stability and progress."
