The White Ferns were still the favourites after posting 162/6 in their allotment. But they let themselves down in the field with seven missed chances, combining with Campbelle's brilliance to result in a famous day for West Indies Women.
West Indies lost Qiana Joseph to a runout in the second over, but captain Haley Matthews regained composure and broke the back of the chase. Her 48-run vigil contributed to a brisk 74-run stand with Campbelle. The highlights of the stand included two dropped catches and a missed stumping.
New Zealand finally held on to one as Matthews holed out at long-on. That brought Deandra Dottin to the crease, but really she was just a spectator in The Campbelle Show. The wicketkeeper-batter had never gone past 50 in 120 efforts, but she cashed in this day.
Campbelle blasted 32 off the next 117 deliveries while Dottin applauded and the White Ferns slumped. She continued to dish out the pain with 27 runs needed from the final three, then scampered through for a diving leg bye to earn victory with a ball to spare.
Earlier, Isabella Gaze got New Zealand off to a bright start. She racked up 39 off 29 before medium pacer Aaliyah Alleyne turned the tide. The unassuming seamer bagged three wickets in the next six balls to reduce New Zealand from 49/0 to 56/3.
Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday righted the ship, then a swashbuckling 35 off 22 balls from Maddy Green took them to a competitive total.
