While Luus previously came in lower down the order in the T20 International space, she has found some success opening the batting alongside captain Laura Wolvaardt in recent times – including during the inbound series against Ireland in December.
She also contributed immensely with the ball to help them to a 2-0 series win.
The former skipper will be hoping to continue where she left off when they take on Pakistan in the first of three matches in Potchefstroom tomorrow.
"I have a new role in the team so it's really just about making that role my own and really just flourishing in that role. It's obviously a couple tours before the World Cup so really putting in those performances, you can never really say if you are gonna be in the team or not,” Luus said.
“It's about balance but what you can do is put in those performances and just help the team in any way you can."
Luus and her teammates are preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup set to take place in England this June, one they’re hoping to finally win after years of heartbreak.
The Proteas Women have reached the final of the tournament in the last two editions but failed to lift the trophy, but Luus denied that there’s any pressure on them to get the monkey off their collective back.
"Uhm I don't think there's any pressure but I think as a nation you always wanna go into a World Cup wanting to win the World Cup and I think having back to back finals it's been great and we'd love to have one up and actually win the cup. So, that's definitely a goal for us,” she added.
Following the two-format series against Pakistan, the Proteas Women will travel to New Zealand before returning to take on India in April. The 30-year-old says they are mentally ready for the busy schedule ahead.
