Tunnicliffe happy with series-winning form for SA Emerging Women

Her unbeaten 41 off 29 deliveries was key in their chase of the visitors’ 75 runs after a clinical bowling display that included Caitlin Wyngaard’s 2/13. 

The T20 series win comes hot on the heels of a 2-1 victory in the 50 overs, and Tunnicliffe says they have had the right mentality throughout the two series, which has borne the desired fruits.

"The 50-over and T20 series wins are really cool. We've had the mentality that winning is collateral to us following our processes and we've done that really well as a unit, and all of the young talents in the team have been given the opportunity to really express themselves which is great."

Tunnicliffe has had a purple patch with the willow during this tour, which has included a brilliant 116 off 95 balls that sealed the third ODI for the team. 

She believes the trust in her teammates’ abilities has given her the freedom to play her own game without any restrictions.

The 27-year-old added that it’s important for the younger players get exposed to international cricket through the Emerging programme, so as to bridge the gap between provincial cricket and Proteas level. 

Tunnicliffe herself has had a taste of the senior international level with six ODIs to go with 14 T20 Internationals for South Africa.

"The competitive matches against International opposition for the emerging team is huge. International exposure is very important so that the jump from provincial level to national level doesn't feel so big and scary when it does happen for players."
