Proteas target series victory against Australia

Proteas batter Tristan Stubbs has made it clear that they’ll go for the jugular when they face Australia in the third and final T20 International this Saturday.

South Africa beat the home side by a comprehensive 53 runs in the second match on Tuesday, levelling the series at 1-1 and setting up what is effectively a mouth-watering final this weekend.

Stubbs says winning a series against Australia in their own backyard would mean a lot to them.

"We are really excited for the third T20. After the first result, we did well to bounce back in the second match, which has set up a great series decider," said the young ball striker.

The first two games were played in Darwin, while the third T20I shifts to the Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.

Stubbs noted the climate changes in the new city and expects that to play a part in the match.

"It is a beautiful cricket ground, and it seems like we will be playing on an authentic pitch and not a 'drop-in' surface.

"There is a bit of wind around, so that will definitely play a part," analysed Stubbs.

Stubbs was at the crease for much of Dewald Brevis’ match-winning 125*, as he posted a supporting 31 runs himself.

He gave his front row seat account of the historic innings by the 22-year-old.

"I said to the umpire during the game that we have the best seat in the house. My job was just to get him on strike, and then to enjoy the show he managed to put on."

He went on to talk about Brevis’ confidence in his batting abilities and how it’s good for the team going forward.

The Proteas will be hoping he stays in form until next year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri-Lanka.
