Proteas stumble on day one of second Test against New Zealand

The second Test between New Zealand and South Africa at Seddon Park saw Rachin Ravindra help limit the visitors to 220 for six at stumps on day one.

The all-rounder excelled with the ball as he took three wickets for 33 runs.

The Proteas, batting first, struggled to increase the scoring rate, with Ruan de Swardt (55 not out) and Shaun von Berg (34 not out) forming a crucial 70-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

De Swardt marked his second Test with a maiden half-century, while von Berg, debuting at 37, showed composure.

New Zealand's four-pronged seam attack, with three changes to the XI, paid off immediately.

Debutant Will O'Rourke dismissed Neil Brand, and Neil Wagner removed Raynard van Tonder with a spectacular catch by Tom Latham.

Ravindra, however, was the standout, claiming key wickets including Zubayr Hamza and Keegan Peterson. David Bedingham's dismissal added to South Africa's woes.
