Peterson’s side open this year’s tournament on Boxing Day against the Durban Super Giants, and he says they’re as prepared as can be for the challenge that lies ahead and the superstars they’ll be facing in that match.
The Cape Town side claimed their first trophy in the three seasons of the tournament earlier this year, when they defeated two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final.
"Yeah we're very, I think we all know the challenge at large. DSG have quite a few upgrades to their squad, so it will be a tough proposition. I mean, Aiden Markram's moved there now, so they've added nicely to their squad but we're pretty confident,” Peterson said.
“I think we're preparing well. All the guys that are coming to camp are looking sharp, so, it's just about getting everybody aligned and knowing exactly what's required on Boxing Day to overcome DSG."
Petersen does not believe that there’ll be any added pressure on them this season by virtue of being the defending champions.
He says they’ve always had a target on their collective back just by being who they are with teams eager to beat them every time they play.
"I don't think so, I think we just always wanna play good cricket. I think last year was last year, this year with a big auction and a new cycle for teams, I think it's important that we realise that and I think being part of MI, you always have a target on your back,” he added.
“That's something the players who are coming to this environment are accustomed to. We will give it our all again and the boys are definitely keen to lift their trophy come the end of the season."
