Gerald Coetzee cracks nod for Proteas' World Cup squad

Proteas coach Rob Walter has named a 15-man squad, featuring eight debutants for the upcoming 2023 ICC Men's World Cup in India.

Led by captain Temba Bavuma, who is among the players who will earn their first taste of a 50-over World Cup, Gerald Coetzee is another debutant who brings youth and excitement to the squad.

The balance is seen with the selection of Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, and Tabraiz Shamsi, who are the only remaining players from the 2019 edition where South Africa were eliminated at the group stage.

Keshav Maharaj, who suffered a ruptured Achilles in March, has made the cut following a remarkable recovery journey that saw him feature in the recent T20 series defeat to Australia in Durban.

The batting line-up is also bolstered by Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks, and all-rounder Marco Jansen, while the bowling attack is completed by Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Sisanda Magala, and Tabraiz Shamsi.
