Dewald Brevis plans to keep unique style of play for Proteas

Conrad has previously made no secret of his admiration for Brevis’ aggressive cricket, and has urged him not to change as he matures into the game. 

Brevis is part of the T20 squad taking on Zimbabwe and Namibia in Windhoek from this week, and he says consistency will come naturally if he continues playing the game his own way.

"Yeah it's always nice with coach Shuks, he always backs me and wants me to play the way I play and I always feel he's backing in that way,” Brevis said. 

“Consistency does come with time when you actually find out and you just keep playing the way you play, that's how you find consistency.

“Not by changing the way you play, that's what I've learned because I actually tried to change it in my younger days if I can say it like that but I am a bit young, so, but it's about playing your way and backing it fully."

Brevis says every player has a unique way of playing, and this is what the coach always encourages. 

He says the key is to have fun while at the crease, and that helps you get into your rhythm better.

"With time you'll notice and you can certainly feel it. You feel more comfortable out there, you understand more the flow of the game and it's a nice place to be when you feel like that,” he added.

“But it's always just to always be true to yourself and to have fun. In this environment I think with coach Shuks and everyone that's what we aim for, everyone to be unique in their own ways."
