England's Ollie Pope hits century in warm-up game ahead of Ashes battle

Ollie Pope basically pocked in his spot at number three in England batting line-up for the first Ashes Test after scoring a century in a warm-up clash against the Lions in Perth.

Pope struck exactly 100 while opener Ben Duckett scored 92 and Zak Crawley 82 in England's total of 426, replying to the Lion's 375, on day two of the war-up clash.

Captain Ben Stokes also had some good time in the middle after striking 77 but Joe Root and Harry Brook suffered tame dismissals as England batted out 85.3 overs.

Pope is competing with Jacob Bethell for the number three slot, but the latter failed in the first innings for the opponents.

The 27-year-old Pope was in full command, stroking 16 fours and a six in his 113 balls faced as England build up for the first Ashes Test on 21 November.

"It's a good wicket to bat on but not too focused on that," Crawley told reporters. "We're just trying to get some rhythm and spend time in the middle.

"We're doing everything we can with what we got. I feel like we're going to be ready next week."

Fast bowler Mark Wood was at the ground as he awaits the result of his precautionary scan after experiencing hamstring stiffness having bowled eight overs on day one.
