CSA CEO celebrates strides in growing the women’s game

Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki says the federation has made significant progress in empowering women through sport.

CSA is currently the only federation in South Africa to implement equal match fees for men and women.

Moseki told SABC Sport that as leaders in the industry, they have to practise what they preach and lead by example.

“We created a proper road map of what we wanted to achieve within the organisation, and if I may humbly say so, we are one of the leaders in so far as women’s sport and equalisation is concerned," said Moseki.

"We are one of the first to develop a professional women’s league. Remember, we currently have equal match fees for men and women cricketers.

"We are not yet there, but we are striving to achieve more and we will continue to practise what we preach."

He noted that providing women athletes with professional contracts and the chance to compete in professional leagues is key to accelerating the growth of the women’s game.

"If we are intentional about the growth of the women’s game, we really have to show up, give women professional contracts and allow them to participate in professional leagues,” he added.

Moseki, the reigning SA Sports Awards Sport Administrator of the Year, also wished the Proteas Women well ahead of their 50-over World Cup campaign starting on 30 September in India.

“All 60 million of us South Africans are backing this amazing team. I am very confident that the ladies will make us proud in the coming month in India. I wish them all the best,” he expressed.
