Chennai Super Kings set to miss injured MS Dhoni for start of IPL season

Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper MS Dhoni will "likely to miss the first two weeks" of this season's Indian Premier League due to a calf injury, the franchise said in a statement.

The Super Kings further posted on social media that the 44-year-old Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for the injury.

India international, and Chennai's new recruit, Sanju Samson is likely take the wicketkeeper gloves in Dhoni's absence ahead of tehir first game against Rajasthan Royals on Monday.

Dhoni played all 14 matches in 2025, scoring 196 runs from 13 innings at a strike-rate of 135.17 with a highest score of 30 not out.

The Super Kings only won four matches in last year's tournament, finishing at the  bottom of the standings and will be looking for a change in fortunes in 2026.
