IPL: Zaheer Khan confirmed as new head coach of Chennai Super Kings

Khan replaces Stephen Fleming, who was at the helm for 16 years and helped the Super Kings win five IPL titles during his tenure.

The 47-year-old Khan most recently worked as a mentor at Lucknow Super Giants in 2025, but was also on the staff at Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022.

The former left-arm seamer had a stellar playing career that saw play an integral role when India lifted the DI World Cup on home soil in 2011 but the Super Kings will be his first head coaching position.

He played 100 IPL matches, taking 102 wickets and was part of two finals, 2010 and 2011, losing both to the Super Kings.

"It's an honour to be a part of one of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL," Zaheer said in a CSK press release. "As a cricketer, I have faced CSK on the field and have thoroughly enjoyed the contests.

"The atmosphere created by the Superfans at Chepauk make it even more special. I can't wait to join the legacy franchise with such a rich history."

Khan's contract will be a for one year and he is expected to start his role soon.
